Mary Persons student hit by car

A Mary Persons student was hit by a car and severely injured while walking to school Tuesday morning. A press release on the incident from Monroe sheriff John Cary Bittick follows unedited. Tuesday, October 27, 2009 A Mary Persons student was hit by a car this morning while crossing Brooklyn Avenue around 7:45 a.m. The student, age 14, was struck by a Honda Accord in front of the entrance to Mary Persons and the Monroe County Board of Education. The student, who walked to school, lived nearby. The area in front of the entrance is staffed by a crossing guard for morning and afternoon school traffic. The crossing guard did not give the student permission to cross the road and traffic was not stopped for foot traffic at the time of the accident. Neither the name of the student nor the driver of the Accord will be released at this time. No charges will be filed against the driver. The student was transported to the Medical Center with head injuries.
