Massey acquitted in vehicular homicide trial

A Lamar County jury deliberated for less than an hour Thursday before returning not guilty verdicts on three counts in the Vivian Massey vehicular homicide trial. A six person jury, normal for misdemeanor cases, sided with Massey and her defense team led by Eric Hearn. Her acquittal was the second here in recent months in a homicide by vehicle case. Massey had been charged with running the stop sign at the intersection of Crawford and Johnstonville roads and striking a pickup driven by 67-year-old Pearl Kemp. Mrs. Kemp and her husband, sixty-eight year old John Kemp, were killed. For full coverage, see the 5.3.2016 print edition of The Herald Gazette.
