The retrial of David Lewis McGuire has been moved to Monroe County after the defense was granted a change of venue. Proceedings are set to begin on May 14. McGuire is charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The charges stem from the Sept. 15, 2016 shooting death of his mother Elaine McGuire at her home on Liz Acres Road. Elaine McGuire suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was found dead in her home by a daughter who came to check on her after being unable to reach her by phone. The first attempt to try the case ended in a mistrial in Lamar superior court on Oct. 27, 2017.
