The retrial of David Lewis McGuire is well underway in Monroe County superior court. A jury was selected Monday. That was followed by opening statements from the prosecution and defense and testimony from several state witnesses.Prosecution witnesses filled the day Tuesday and this morning. It appears the state may rest its case today. Defense witnesses will follow.McGuire, 39, was granted a change of venue to Monroe earlier this year.He is charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and four firearms charges in connection with the shooting death of his mother, 70-year-old Elaine Brown McGuire here Sept. 15, 2016.The first attempt to try the case ended in a mistrial in Lamar superior court on Oct. 27, 2017 with one juror holding out for acquittal.Elizabeth Bobbitt is heading up the prosecution team assisted by Anita Howard.
