The local VFW Post has scheduled a Memorial Day observance which will be held at the veterans memorial in Milner city park May 27 at 11 a.m. VFW members are working in conjunction with the US Military Vets Motorcycle Club and the American Legion. Lamar County has not had a Memorial Day observance in many years and VFW members decided they needed to take the lead and renew the tradition. The public is invited to attend and show their respect for the men and women who served this great nation and made the ultimate sacrifice. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Richard Wright, a veterans advocate who speaks across the state and nation on veterans affairs. There will be a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial and local churches, clubs, businesses and individuals are invited to participate. After the observance, refreshments will be served at the VFW Post Home on Old Hwy. 41 North.
