Merritts to face off on family feud

By Kay S. Pedrotti On Feb. 19, locals can see a Barnesville family appear on ‘Family Feud.’ The Merritts are the first known to make it to the game show from here. Adrianne Neal, who lives here and works as a nurse in Thomaston, said she and four of her cousins first auditioned for the show in April 2013. In June, they were notified they made it and given a date of Aug. 13 for the taping. ‘It’s a show you don’t want to miss,’ Neal said. ‘It’s going to be really funny. We want everybody in Barnesville, the U.S., Asia, Australia, wherever, to enjoy this as much as we did.’ The Merritts are descendants of the late James Quick Merritt and Annie Ruth Merritt of Barnesville. All the contestants grew up here, Neal said, but the others now live elsewhere. The other four cousins are Patrick Merritt of Ellenwood, Natalie Brooks of Conyers, Jonathan King of Smyrna and Tina Merritt of Hampton. ’It’s very exciting. We’re glad it turned out this way,’ she added. The show will be aired on WUPA, the game channel. Viewers will need to check the listings for their providers for the time of the show.
