Mildred Edwards Giamalva

Clara Mildred Edwards Giamalva, 72, of Milton, Fla., passed away on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 after a brief illness. Mildred was born July 18,1941 in Aldora, Ga., to Norman and Elizabeth Edwards. She joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1962 until 1965 when she met and married her husband, Lawrence Giamalva. Mildred and her family moved to her husband’s last duty station at Milton, Fla., in 1981. She attended Olive Baptist Church in Milton, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law Rev. Aubrey Thompson; and a great-grandson, Andrew Cole Wilsnack. Mildred is survived by her husband of 49 years, Larry; children, Karla (Tim) Stafford and Andrea Giamalva; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Lt. Andrew) Wilsnack, Jessica (Lt. JG Andrew) Salmon, Tyler Wessling and Tony Giamalva-Stepanski; and five great-grandchildren. Mildred was the youngest of four children. She is survived by her siblings, W.R. (Bobbie) Edwards of Live Oak, Fla., Myrtice Thompson of Kennesaw Ga., and Blant (Judith) Edwards of Milner, Ga. Several beloved in-laws and many nephews and nieces also survive. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 at the Lewis Funeral home in Milton, Fla., with the Rev. Tod Brainard officiating. A private family interment will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla., on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013. The family sends a special thank you to West Florida Hospital and Santa Rosa Health and Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care provided.
