The Lamar County commission met Friday morning to officially approve 2019 millage rates. The county rate is 13.157 mills with the school system rate at 17.077 mills. Each represents a one mill increase. With that accomplished, tax commissioner Andrea Anthony can begin bill preparation. She and chief appraiser Jeannie Haddock are hand-delivering the digest to Atlanta for state approval this morning, taking advantage of a cancellation of an appointment by another county in hopes of getting bills out in time to preserve the usual Nov. 15 payment deadline. That would require mailing by Sept. 15 as state law requires 60-day notice for taxpayers. The combined tax hikes would raise taxes on a property valued at $100,000 by about $56.
