Milner buying former Rudy’s location

The City of Milner has entered into an agreement to buy the ill-fated former Rudy’s House of Ribs building downtown. According to city administrator Harold Wilson, the Milner council met at 4 p.m. Wednesday and voted to proceed with an agreement to purchase the property at 161-163 Main Street from current owner Lester Ranew. The restaurant will be purchased using SPLOST funds. Wilson did not outline a purpose for the building. The building housed the restaurant of Randolph (Rudy) Vaughn until he was arrested and imprisoned. As part of his plea deal, Vaughn deeded the building and 1.16 acres to Lamar County. In September, 2007 Ranew bought the property from the county for $335,000. It has housed two failed restaurants since then – Smith’s Smokehouse and Backwoods Grill. It has been vacant for some time.
