Milner, SWA joining battle against E.T. Carlyle

Two more entities have decided to join in the fight against the E.T. Carlyle Co.’s proposed C&D landfill. Milner city council voted Tuesday to send a resolution and letter to the Environmental Protection Division protesting the siting of the unlined landfill in a groundwater recharge area and calling the county’s court-mandated letter to the EPD invalid or insufficient. The Lamar County Regional Solid Waste Authority plans to do the same thing Wednesday since it has responsibility for all solid waste management in Lamar and Milner. ”We’re condemning the county’s letter for jurisdictional reasons,” said SWA director Johnny Poore. “We’ve never had a say-so. We also think it’s in conflict with the solid waste plan.”
