Milner held its first Pecan Festival last weekend and the event was a huge success in raising sufficient funds for improvement on Milner’s City Park. The event began at 7 a.m. with the Run Like a Nut 5K and fun run with nearly 100 runners. Close to 60 vendors covered the city track and more than 1,500 visitors came out to the festival’s premier.’I was very pleased by the business brought in from the festival,’ vendor Tom Dziedzic stated. ‘This has been one of the most rewarding festivals I have had the opportunity to be a part of.’Crowds viewed many cars set up at the car show and enjoyed music by Big John and the Chevy Show and Donnie Lee Strickland.’Just the day of the event, we raised $1,428,’ said event coordinator Tracey Alford. ‘The event was a great success. It will happen again next year.’ With its great success, the Pecan Festival is scheduled to become an annual event. Officials with the City of Milner would like to thank everyone who came out to the event and extend their gratitude to those who helped make this event possible. Through proper planning and preparation, Milner has gained a signature festival that will be anticipated throughout the coming years, said Alford.
