Milner’s Pecan Festival is Saturday

Milner’s Pecan Festival will return for a second year this Saturday, May 20. The event will be held at Milner City Park from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. and will feature many of the same attractions as last year’s event including the Run Like a Nut 5K, about 30 food and craft vendors, a car show, a corn hole tournament, face painting and kids activities. Registration for the Run Like a Nut 5K is at raceentry. com/race-reviews/pecanfestival. Revelers and runners are invited to start the day with the 5k and enjoy a scenic run, or walk, through parts of downtown Milner. Registration is $25 before race day and $30 on the day of the race. The kids one mile fun run costs $15. Registration begins at 7 a.m. the day of the event with the 5k beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the fun run at 8:45 a.m. For those who pre-registered, early packet pick-up will be available Friday, May 19 at the city hall in Milner. Trophies will be given to male and female overall 5K winners. Die cast medals will be given to first, second and third place male and female runners and custom medals will be awarded to first, second and third place fun run winners. Last year’s first annual festival raised sufficient funds for improvement on Milner’s city park with more than 1500 visitors. This year, the festival committee hopes to be equally as successful in raising funds for new cabinets at the local fire department. ’We are just having fun in Milner and want everyone to come out and have fun with us,’ said festival co-chairman Alesia Morris. ‘Come out and enjoy our small little town that likes to help out our small community.’
