Missing Cobb Co. woman grew up in B’ville; suspect arrested, car found

A woman, missing along with her husband after they left their Cobb County home with cash to buy a car they saw on Craigslist, grew up in Barnesville. Warrants have been issued for a suspect – presumably the man who ran the ad to start with. UPDATE: The suspect in the case is now in custody. UPDATE 2: The Runions’ car has been found. Elrey ‘Bud’ Runion, 69, and June McCord Runion, 66, left their home with cash – some reports indicate $12,000, others $22,000 – to buy a 1966 Mustang Thursday. The vehicle was supposed to be located in or near McRae in Telfair County. The Runions have not been seen or heard from since. June Runion is the first cousin of well-known Lamar countians Ed and Billy Williams who built homes and ran Williams Brothers Building Supply for many years. June’s father, Willie Roy McCord, was the brother of Ed and Billy’s mother, Ruby McCord. Willie Roy McCord’s wife was Vergie McCord. June grew up ‘in the curve’ on Grove Street. The late Wayne Trice was also a cousin of June’s according to his widow, Lynda Sue Trice. The Runions were driving a 2003 champagne colored GMC Envoy when they left home. Authorities traced the number in the Craigslist ad to a disposable cellphone. That phone was traced to Ronnie Adrian Towns, known as ‘Jay’, whom they questioned. Towns’ statement did not match up with the known facts in the case and he has fled. Warrants charging him with making false statements and criminal attempt to commit theft by deception have been taken. The search for the Runions is centered in southeast Telfair County near Jacksonville. Anyone with information on the Runions or Towns is asked to call the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office at 229.868.6621. Authorities warn against answering Craigslist ads and meeting with purported sellers with large amounts of cash in hand as the Runions apparently did. A facebook page has been set up to aid in the search for the Runions. You may access it at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Find-Bud-June-Runion/842141039158408 UPDATE: Towns was apprehended Monday morning and is in custody. UPDATE 2: The Runions car was found in a shallow pond near Jacksonville Monday. No bodies were inside the vehicle. The search for the Runions continues.
