Unity in the Community, the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration, will be held Monday, Jan. 17. The theme this year is Keeping the Dream Alive Through the Dream of Change.The celebration will begin at 9 a.m. at the E.P. Roberts Center, march to the Lamar County courthouse. There will be a short program on the steps of the Lamar County courthouse. The keynote address will be given by Rev. Jay Tenney of Barnesville First United Methodist Church.Those assembled will march to East Mt. Sinai Baptist Church for the second keynote address, given by its pastor, Rev. Jimmy Lyons.Individuals and groups may take part in the parade by marching, driving a car, bike or riding on a float.’The community is invited to join the celebration,’ said chairman April Smith. ‘We hope you’ll take part in our annual event.’ After the program, refreshments will be provided by the Dewaine T.Bell Difference Makers, formerly known as 100 Black Men and Women of Lamar County.For information call Smith at 770-358-3311.
