A 26-year-old Molena man was arrested on multiple charges after a high speed chase down Thomaston Street and Hwy. 36 West Aug. 16.Barnesville police units attempted to stop a 2011 Kia Forte just before midnight but the driver fled, sideswiping a vehicle in the process.Sgt. Michael Newman was at Flash Food when he saw the chase coming at him along Thomaston Street and joined in. He watched as the car passed three vehicles in a no passing zone and ran off the road several times.Sgt. Newman clocked the car at 117 mph. in a 55 mph. zone. The car continued west on Hwy. 36 until the driver lost control just east of Willis Road. He fled into a wooded area where he was soon found on the ground near a tree and admitted he had no license.A computer check revealed him to be Aaron Dezmond Watts off 122 East Jones Street in Molena. He went to jail charged with two super speeder violations, two counts fleeing and attempting to elude, obstruction, aggravated assault, two counts failure to maintain lane, two counts reckless driving, suspended license, hit and run, failure to obey a traffic control device and DUI.
