Monroe deputy’s dad struck, killed while cycling

A Monroe County man died yesterday, Oct. 27, 2013, after being struck by a car while bicycling on Hwy. 41 north. Walter Leggett, 61, was riding his bicycle near Heritage Drive when he was struck by a Lincoln Towncar driven by Ahmad Rasheed, 78, of Macon. The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. when Mr. Leggett attempted to turn left on to Heritage Drive. Mr. Leggett was transported to the Medical Center of Central Georgia where he died from his injuries. The investigation into this accident continues. Mr. Leggett’s son is a deputy with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. -Allison Selman-Willis, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office
