Municipal qualifying underway

Qualifying for city elections in Barnesville and Milner gets underway this week. At 4 p.m. Monday, four city council candidates had qualified in Barnesville. Milner qualifying begins Tuesday. Three Barnesville candidates qualified to seek the Ward 4 seat currently held by Lynn Wilson who reportedly will not seek reelection. Qualifying were Robert Neal Devane, 53, of 103 Lambdin Circle; Calvin Lynn Scandrett, 41, of 109 Lambdin Circle; and Larry B. Whitworth, 66, of 608 Holmes Street. Devane listed his occupation as HERO unit operator. Scandrett listed his occupation as teacher, activities director and energy manager at Lamar County High School. Whitworth’s occupation was listed as quality control manager at Continental Tire. Incumbent Cecil D. McDaniel, 56, of 494 College Drive qualified to seek reelection in Ward 5. McDaniel listed his occupation as consultant.
