Murder trials get underway

For reprint permission, e-mail news@barnesville.com. By Walter Geiger The Lamar County courthouse will be a beehive of activity Monday, Jan. 23 when over 150 traverse jurors report to superior court. Juries will be chosen for two murder trials. Once the juries are selected, Shameik Spinks, 18, will be tried on two counts of felony murder and multiple other charges. Spinks allegedly shot Danavan Bussey in the face with a shotgun during a Dec. 5, 2010 home invasion. Spinks could have faced the death penalty but he was only 17 at the time of the killing.
