Need for Christmas giving is greater than ever

The economy here in the United States is in dire straits and shows no real sign of imminent recovery. The same is true for Georgia and the local economies here in Lamar and Pike counties. Much of this can be attributed to the housing crash for which the federal government must shoulder most of the blame. Loan programs mandated banks loan money for houses to people who bankers ‘“ and even government loan geeks ‘“ knew could not make the payments. People whose family incomes dictated the ability to pay mortgages on $100,000 homes were buying $300,000 homes. When the economy soured, those homes were foreclosed upon and the government was in no position to help. And, thus, the dominoes began to fall, the housing market sank and it took the economy down with it.
