New dress code for Trojans

At their July 19 meeting, the Lamar County Board of Education approved a revised dress code presented in the 2016 LCMS/ LCHS handbook. With this new revision students will not be required to wear shirts with collars, but will still be required to follow dress code stipulations that reflect concepts of modesty and school spirit. A dress code must still be enforced to enhance the safety of the school’s students. According to the hand book students should not wear clothing in a manner that will not be disruptive to the school or classroom environment. Clothing should not sag or be worn backwards and pants should be worn at the waist. All belts and straps should be fastened and secured. The length of clothing must reflect modesty and an index card will be used as a guideline to determine if the clothing is within the dress code limits. Shorts, skirts and dresses must be no more than three inches above the knee. Leggings, jeggings, tights and yoga pants are not to be worn as pants but may be worn under skirts, dresses and tunics that are not see through and are no more than three inches above the knee. Students are expected to remain in dress code at all times except during PE where PE dress will be restricted to the gym. Any student not maintaining the dress code will be referred to the office where administrators will determine if the student meets the guidelines. Certain clothing items are not permissible and include: ’¢ Clothing with holes, rips or tears ’¢ See through clothing, or clothing that exposes the torso ’¢ Clothing or jewelry related to drug use, alcohol, gangs, pro-wrestling or suggestive language ’¢ Tank tops, pajamas or bedroom slippers ’¢ Offensive arm bands, offensive painted or printed words, signs or symbols on clothes or hats ’¢ Hair curlers, combs, picks or headbands ’¢ Halter tops, spaghetti straps, low cut tops ’¢ Head coverings, sunglasses, hats, caps, dew rags or bandannas ’¢ Flip-flops ’¢ Gym shorts, sweat pants or overalls To see the full dress code policy for 2016-17 in the school handbook, visit
