What can parents do to invest in their children’s future? Participating in school functions whenever possible, encouraging children to try in school and requiring them to be successful are some things encouraged by the Lamar County school system.A new school year brings new opportunities for investing. Researchers have found successful students have encouraging, involved parents or guardians who consistently have high expectations for their children. To help encourage that, the high school will hold a Jumpstart transition and picnic. Rising ninth graders are invited to attend transition days on Thursday, July 24 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday, July 25 from 8-11 a.m. Students can get schedules, find their way, and more.Parents can share a time of fellowship with food prepared by the Barnesville Kiwanis Club on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They can visit the school, help sons and daughters rent a locker and discover ways to stay updated during the school year.Call 770-358-8641 for information.
