New officer joins BPD

Michael Rainer, 38, has joined the Barnesville police department as a patrol officer. A former resident of Henry County, Rainer says he has been coming to Barnesville since the 1980s because his grandparents were here. He now lives on what had been their property in Lamar County. This is Rainer’s first job in law enforcement after obtaining his POST certification. For the last year, he has served with the Barnesville Fire Department. He previously worked in construction for eight years and about 10 years in the funeral home industry. Rainer says he wanted to come to Barnesville to work in law enforcement because ‘I really enjoy the small-town atmosphere.’ He also likes hunting and fishing.
