No injuries in Griffin school fire

A early morning fire broke out at Beaverbrook Elementary School in Griffin Monday but no one was hurt. On Monday November 18, 2013, at approximately 7:21 AM, a fire was reported at Beaverbrook Elementary School, 251 Birdie Road, Griffin, Georgia. The early reports indicate the fire started in an air conditioner unit located in the rear main building. Principal Ken Bozeman and his staff evacuated all of the students to a safe area outside the building and then begin extinguishing the fire with fire extinguishers. The Spalding County Fire Department arrived; the fire was extinguished and the building was being cleared of smoke. At the time of this news release the Fire Department was still at the scene. They plan to resume classes later this morning. No injuries were reported. Sheriff Beam wants to commend Principal Ken Bozeman and his staff for their prompt response to this incident for caring for the safety of all students and personnel. -Tony Ranieri, S.C.S.O.
