Qualifying is over for Barnesville and Milner. No dust flew as no opposition candidates tossed any hats into the ring. The mayor and two Barnesville city council seats and three Milner at-large council seats that are up for grabs during the Tuesday, Nov. 8 general election saw only those already in office qualifying. In Barnesville, Mayor Peter Banks and the Wards one and three seats held by Anne Claxton and Sammy Shropshire were up for election. All three were the lone qualifiers and paid their fees last Monday, the first day of qualifying. It took a little longer in Milner but the council seats held by Betty Wilson, James Bevil and Fred Stephens saw those three qualify for re-election with no fourth candidate for opposition. However, this does not quite yet mean local cities will not have elections.
