On Thursday, March 31, Gordon State College President, Dr. Kirk A. Nooks will present the institution’s annual State of the College address at 9:30 a.m. in the GSC Student Activity and Recreation Center (SARC).
President Nooks will focus on providing an overview of the highlights and milestones from the past year and elaborate on where GSC currently stands as well as where the year ahead might lead.
“There’s exciting news to be shared of the progress Gordon State College has achieved within the past year and what we have planned for the near future,” Nooks said. “I’m proud of the commitment and collaboration among faculty, staff, and students that led us to where we currently are. Our Highlander Nation thrives on, The Power of We.”
Some topics will include the progress for GSC to leverage its institution’s strategic plan, “The Power of We,” by strengthening and increasing internal communication efforts. Another strategic imperative that will be discussed is how GSC, with continuous efforts, will aid students to achieve excellence throughout their academic journey.
The event will also be open to the community.
I am so excited about the progress and transformation that my hometown college has made, from Gordon Military College, where my grandfather attended the coal that heated the buildings, to the high school where my twin sisters were among the first blacks to attend Gordon. Now a present administration led by an African American male. When I am riding along College Drive, I see the change in the landscape by adding new buildings. Buildings that are now refined and appropriate for the times. Indeed buildings that have changed since my brick mason father participated in building campus structures.
Dr. Nooks, I salute you, teachers, students, your administrative team, and the future of Gordon College in my hometown, Barnesville, Georgia.
