Oberg named head baseball coach at LC; plans youth camp

Lamar County alumni and former assistant coach Mike Oberg has been named head coach of the LC Diamond Trojans. Oberg graduated from LC in 2004. He has been an assistant coach here since 2011. Oberg is bringing in two assistants. Hugh Strickland returns home to LC from Monroe County Middle School where he was head baseball and softball coach. Strickland graduated from Lamar in 2006. T.C. Boyd will also join Oberg’s staff. Boyd is a recent graduate of Berry College where he played baseball. He was also a grad assistant on the Berry football and baseball staffs. Oberg, his staff and players will host a youth baseball camp June 8-10 at Aldora Field. The cost is $60 per player with a break for siblings. ’Over the course of three days we will go over throwing, fielding, pitching, hitting and base running to cover all areas of the game. Campers will work with small groups to ensure personal instruction that will allow them to learn the correct skills and techniques of a successful baseball player,’ Oberg said. Players should bring bats, gloves, baseball attire, hats, protective cups, catching gear, turf shoes, cleats, tennis shoes and a positive attitude.
