The heroic actions of an injured 11-year-old were not enough to save a man killed in a single vehicle accident early Memorial Day on Hwy. 36 East here.A driver lost control of a vehicle on Hwy. 36 near Edie Creek at 12:06 a.m. The car went off one side of the road, over corrected and ended up in the creek gorge.The driver was partially ejected, seriously injured and lifeflighted to Atlanta Medical Center in serious condition.The passenger, 42-year-old James Adron Baxter of 1061 Barnesville Rd. died at the scene.An 11-year old victim who was in the backseat of the vehicle climbed out of the creek bottom and flagged down help on Hwy. 36 despite suffering a broken collarbone and other injuries. The child is at Egleston Hospital in Atlanta.Baxter’s body is at Connor-Westbury Funeral Home awaiting transport to the state crime lab which is overwhelmed with work, according to coroner Jim Smith.
