One local man is dead and another is in jail after an early morning shooting on Warner Road here. At daybreak, Lamar deputies and GBI crime scene techs were working the scene at 227 Warner Road.
First responders were dispatched at 12:57 a.m.

According to family members on the scene, Jacob Benjamin Craft, 41, of 126 Perkins Road was driving erratically and was possibly under the influence when he wrecked in front of the Warner Road home. Willie Floyd Perdue, 55, who lived on the property, went outside, an altercation ensued and Perdue was shot multiple times with a 10 mm. handgun.
Sheriff Brad White said Perdue died later at a hospital. Craft was apprehended and is in jail. Charges are pending.
Sheriff White reported another person of interest deputies were looking for came out of the woods at about daylight and was being questioned. It was unclear if the person was a suspect or a witness.
“We have served four or five search warrants out there over the years. Floyd was known to shelter drug users on the property,” the sheriff concluded.
