Hours, days and weeks of preparation have been aimed at a target date: Monday, Aug. 3, the day Lamar County students will come back to school for the 2015-16 year.Open house for all schools will be held July 30 from 2-6 p.m. at all four locations. Parents and students are invited to meet teachers, receive information and enjoy seeing friends again after summer vacation.The principals, Matt Adams, high school; Dr. Julie Steele, middle school; Dr. Andrea Scandrett, elementary school, and Becky Brown, primary school, are pulling together last-minute details to be sure their schools are ready to welcome parents and students.Everything students and parents may need to know is in this year’s Back to School tab inserted in The Herald Gazette this week. Every aspect of the educational system is covered, from transportation to special education to testing dates and the calendar for 2015-16. Telephone numbers and emails are given to insure that any other questions from parents are answered.Students entering ninth grade this year were given information about what to expect as at a Jumpstart event July 22. On Wednesday July 29, parents are invited to accompany students to the Jumpstart picnic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. During these hours, students may purchase lockers, meet students and enjoy great food.Looking on to the big date likely to be most welcomed, the last day of school for students is May 27, 2016.
