LC opens a can 42-16, ruins dedication of Jackson’s new stadium

The #8 Lamar County Trojans (5-0) routed the Jackson Red Devils on the road 42-16 Friday night in a game in which they were 3-point underdogs, according to the Maxwell computer picks.

Jackson fell to 2-2 with the loss which came on a night during which they dedicated the newly remodeled stadium on historic Red Devil Hill.

Buggy Days #48 ready to roll

The 48th annual Buggy Days festival gets underway in earnest Thursday with a kickoff party downtown. Lamar Arts is hosting a ticketed cocktail reception at the Depot Gallery from 5-7 p.m. Many downtown businesses are joining in with special deals, extended hours, and live music.

Saturday morning’s Buggython Road Race with its signature cannon start will kick off the main event weekend. Races include a 10K, 5K and 2-mile walk. Participants should park at the Gordon lots off College Drive and gather at Summers Field Park.

The entry fee is $20 for adults, $15 for those 12 and under. The walk fee is $10. The race is sponsored by the recreation department.

The arts and craft vendors will display their wares downtown Saturday and Sunday. Hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and noon-5p.m. Sunday.

The antique cars will be displayed downtown on Saturday morning and take part in the big parade that begins at 2 p.m. Leading the parade will be grand marshal Andy Bush, the 2021 Citizen of the Year. The parade will form up at the Gordon parking lots off College Drive.

The big fireworks display will launch on Saturday night at 9:30 p.m. at Summers Field Park.

Music and dance groups and other entertainers will perform all weekend downtown.

The Buggy Blast Kids Park will be located in the United Bank parking lot. Wristbands are $10 per day.

And, it wouldn’t be Buggy Days without the food. The food booths and trucks will be located in the Stafford Block parking lot all weekend.

Official Buggy Days t-shirts are $15 and available at the chamber of commerce office.

Trojans go to 4-0 with 35-22 win over Manchester

The #8 Lamar County Trojans topped the Manchester Blue Devils 35-22 Friday night at Trojan Field to run their record to 4-0.

UGA running backs coach Dell McGee was on the sidelines for the game as were coaches from Auburn.
