Parents, two kids found living in shed

A man and woman are in jail on unrelated charges after they were found living, along with two children, in a 10×12 accessory building behind a home at 230 Aldora Street here. A neighbor discovered the family’s spartan living arrangements when he confronted the father of one of the kids about their killing his chickens by throwing pears at them. The adults, each parent to one of the boys, had a bed in the shed which all four shared. There was no air conditioning, no running water and only an extension cord for power. The parents, Christopher Paul Hutchins, 41, and Amanda Lorine Boyd, 36, were arrested on charges from other counties. The boys were taken into protective custody by DFCS personnel. The property owner, David Hay, said he let the family live there because he was trying to help them. He said he thought the boys stayed with neighbors during the middle of the day to avoid the heat. The adults earned their keep by performing odd jobs for him, Hay added. He said he had asked Hutchings to leave but he refused. Major Leslie Holmes of the LCSO reported Wednesday that investigators were still trying to determine what charges, if any, will be filed against Hutchins and Boyd with regard to conditions they had their children living in.
