Our neighbors in Pike County have big, patriotic plans for their annual Independence Day celebration Saturday, July 3.The Pride of Pike celebration will feature fireworks, a massive parade, music and other fun family activities.Parade chair Teri Totten says she anticipates more than 100 groups or individuals in the parade, lining up at 2:30 p.m. and moving out at 4 p.m. “We’re still looking for more,” Totten said.Grand marshals are a potential 1,300 veterans in Pike County on floats or other vehicles but she doesn’t expect that many to attend. A previously unannounced feature of the parade will be a remembrance walk of 175 volunteers carrying placards with the names of Georgia military personnel killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. Organizer Teresa Rutledge says volunteers are needed “for the honor of carrying these signs.” Call 404-210-1091 to volunteer.The parade route will be Highway 19 north to Williamson-Zebulon Road to County Farm Road.Other events will be held at the soccer complex on Twin Oaks Road. The parking fee is $5 per car.
