The Brothers of Pinta Lodge #88 F&AM saluted the late Jason Shirey by unveiling a plaque honoring him Thursday at Summers Field Park.(Slideshow of dedication images inside.)Shirey, who served as assistant city manager for Barnesville and was a Past Master of the Lodge, died suddenly March 26 after a brief illness at age 39. He did a lot of the design and planning work for the new park.Worshipful Master Daniel Williams welcomed a large crowd that turned out despite threatening weather. Junior Warden Tim Turner presented a history of the Lodge and local Masons. City manager Kenny Roberts spoke of his love and respect for Jason.Geri Shirey, Jason’s mother, spoke at length about how the community, and partiularly the Masonic brotherhood, have rallied to her side since Jason’s death. She was presented with Jason’s Past Master’s apron with Jason’s brother, Grady, at her side and the memorial plaque was unveiled. It sits at the foot of the park flagpole.Tim and Kelley Turner led the crowd in a rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’. Chaplain Danny Turner gave the benediction after a time of silent prayer and reflection.
