Pizza Hut driver comes forward

A student experiencing his first day on the job as a Pizza Hut driver was the person who arrived on the porch of the Hamrick home to a rude welcome here Feb. 2. Hambone Hamrick confronted the driver because his parents had not ordered any pizza and fired some shots in the ground to scare off what he thought was a carload of home invaders. Pizza Hut manager Jason McNeal said the driver was lost, seeking directions and had a dead cellphone. He was in uniform but did not have a car topper sign on his vehicle which would likely have prevented the event which McNeal labeled a misunderstanding. The local franchise has nine drivers and only two such signs. More have been ordered. ”We just want people to know our drivers are legit and we don’t want people to stop ordering pizza,” McNeal said. Pizza Hut district manager Heath Peacock planned to be in Barnesville Monday to check with the sheriff’s office regarding an incident report. There was no explanation as to why the driver waited three days to come forward.
