Poll workers have been underwhelmed thus far today as voters have avoided voting in the special election to fill the ward two seat on the Barnesville city council like the plague. As of 11 a.m., only five voters had cast ballots at the Barnesville Civic Center, raising the issue of whether the election is a waste of taxpayer money.”It has been slow – dreadfully slow. Personally, I think there was not enough campaigning by the candidates,” reported assistant poll manager Carolyn Kitchings.Advance voting in the not-so-riveting race between Chris Hightower and Ronald Horton drew only eight voters. As of 5:00 pm that number has risen to 41 total voters.”Yes, things have been slow. Some people even admitted to forgetting until they saw the notice in the paper. We expect to see quite a few more people now that folks are getting off work,” adds James Kitchings.
