Possible jury tampering probe underway; Smith interviewed

Judge Tommy Wilson has made authorities aware of allegations grand jury proceedings which were supposed to be closed were monitored on the courthouse’s security camera system. A spokesperson in Judge Wilson’s office said the allegations were brought to his attention and he notified the district attorney’s office and the sheriff’s office. Former deputy Grier Smith, who was involved in a grand jury proceeding in June, reports he was interviewed as part of the investigation. ”I was interviewed Sunday by GBI agent Cayce Ingalls regarding Lamar County SO deputies as well as Lamar County sheriff Larry Waller eavesdropping on both the testimonial and voting processes of the June 2010 Grand Jury proceedings,” Smith said. The matter could rise to the level of jury tampering if the votes of individual grand jurors were monitored. More on this story as it develops….
