Power restored

UPDATE: Southern Rivers had restored all power as of early Monday morning. By Cade Lancaster At about 6 p.m. Sunday evening, Lamar County Fire Rescue responded to 721 Brook Road for what was originally reported as a blown power transformer with fire present. “When we arrived on scene, we did not see a blown transformer, but we did find three downed power lines and a fire in the field where they had fallen,” said Captain William Reeder of LCFR. Southern Rivers Energy sent two crews to the scene. It has been concluded that the cause of the line breakage was due to a surge at one of the local sub-stations. That surge caused residents across Lamar County and Middle Georgia to lose power. They are still working to restore power to 1,460 homes. To report an outage, call 1-866-244-4890.
