Probe focus shifts to truck, lowboy trailer

Officials with the Georgia State Patrol have ruled out a trailered boat pulled by an SUV as the source of the tire that killed Brian Durst on the side of I-75 Monday. The focus has shifted to a black dually pickup hauling a lowboy trailer. The photos of the new suspect vehicle and trailer came from the same dash cam video from a Lamar County deputy’s cruiser that generated the first. The tires on the two trailers are similar. Investigators say the tire came off the trailer and struck Durst, who was well off the highway repairing his own vehicle, in the legs. He was alert and talking at the scene for some 30 minutes but later coded in an ambulance and died after being flown from a local hospital to an Atlanta area trauma unit. Investigators are treating the case as an accidental death and theorize the driver of the truck never knew the tire came off the trailer until well after the incident. Some have questioned the response time of paramedics to the scene. If you recognize the pictured truck or trailer call the Lamar sheriff’s office at 770.358.5159
