Public a no show at public hearing

Four citizens turned out and none offered comment September 1 as the Lamar County commission held a public hearing on its proposed budget. Commission chairman Jay Matthews noted the $8.573 million budget had been cut by three percent from the budget requested by department heads. The budget is down four percent from the previous year, Matthews added. County administrator Wayne Patterson reported the Georgia Department of Revenue approved the county digest after a meeting earlier in the day in Atlanta with local officials. The commission will officially approve its budget and associated millage rates at its regular meeting on September 8.
