Two Thousand Six hundred Twenty-two ($2,622.00) Dollars In United States CurrencyCase No. 20B-264-FOn or about May 19, 2020, on and around Interstate Highway 75 in Lamar County, Georgia, officers of the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office seized the above-listed property. At the date and time of the seizure Michael J. Chaney was in possession of the said United States currency. Defendant was travelling on Interstate 75 in Lamar County, Georgia, and a Deputy with the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop his vehicle for a traffic violation. Defendant then began to flee in his vehicle away from the said Deputy, exceeding speeds of over 100 mph. At one point the Deputy observed clear bags with white substances being thrown from the window of the vehicle. When the vehicle came to a stop, Defendant was arrested and a search of his person and the vehicle yielded the above-listed property in addition to a quantity of marijuana, a quantity of methamphetamine, a black box with magnets, a glass smoking pipe, and a digital scale. A search of the location where the Defendant was seen tossing the items from the vehicle yielded an additional quantity of methamphetamine. Defendant was found to have felony drug convictions from the state of Florida. At the date and time of the seizure Dontavious Tremaine Drain was in possession of the said United States currency. Defendant was the driver of a vehicle traveling on Highway 36 in Lamar County, Georgia, which a Deputy with the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office stopped for a traffic violation investigation. The Deputy could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and conducted a probable cause search of it. The vehicle search yielded a quantity of marijuana, a quantity of cocaine, a number of small bags, and a black scale. Defendant claimed ownership of those said items and further stated that the bags were used to package the marijuana for sale. The above-listed United States currency was found on Defendant’s person. Defendant was found to have prior felony drug convictions and arrests.
