(12-19)(4)(p) Grand Jury Presentments December Term 2017 Lamar Superior Court To: Honorable Judge Thomas Wilson Judge, Lamar County Superior Court, Towaliga Judicial Circuit The Grand Jury chosen and sworn at the December Term 2017, of the Lamar County Superior Court, submits the following presentments: We wish to commend our Judge Thomas Wilson for the clarity and thoroughness of his charge to our body and for the dignity and effiiciency with which court proceedings are conducted. We wish to express our appreciation to the District Attorney, Jonathan Adams, and his staff for the competent and courteous manner in which they have handled all matters brought before us. Also, we wish to thank our Bailiff Carol Sutton for her courteous help. We wish to commend the Clerk of Superior Court, Caleb A, Tyson and his staff for their assistance to the Grand Jury. We wish to commend Sheriff Brad White and the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office; Chief Craig Cooper and the Barnesville Police Department; Chief Michael Bailey and Milner Police Department for their outstanding protection of the people of Lamar County and their assistance to this Grand Jury. We wish to commend Kathy Davies, our Foreperson and Felicia Fay Cook, our Clerk, for the work they performed during our deliberations. We also wish to commend all Officers, Deputies and Investigators who were proficient and professional in the explanations of the cases that were presented to this Grand Jury. Annual Inspection of Lamar County Detention Facility A committee from the Grand Jury inspected the County Detention Facility and below represents our findings: Lamar County Jail On December 11, 2017 a selected group of grand jurors visited and inspected the Lamar County Detention Center. We found the staff to be courteous and dedicated to their duties. The kitchen again had a 100% grade on its most recent health inspection. We reviewed the finding of the previous grand jury jail inspection and found that the Sheriff is updating technology for the control center. The Sheriff and his staff are very attentive to the needs of his facility but it is a very old facitlity and could us upgrading. We find he is doing a very good job with the materials that he has; however, we did notice that ceiling tiles need replacing due to roof leaks, there were some exposed electrical wires that need to be placed in conduits. We recommend better exit signs and that HVAC controls should be relocated with space sensors installed and HVAC filters should be replaced with higher quality filters to cut down on airborne pathogens. We believe that the citizens of Lamar County are being serviced by Sheriff Brad White and his staff and we commend their service. We recommend that these presentments, inspections and recommendations be published in the official organ and the regular fee be paid for publishing. This the day of December, 2017.
