Qualifying: Lamar will have a new tax commissioner and school board member

UPDATE: Candidate qualifying is complete: Lamar County will have a new tax commissioner as incumbent Andrea Anthony did not qualify. Amanda Gamez was the lone qualifier for that post. Additionally, Dist. 3 school board member Joshua Swatts did not qualify. Glen Allen was the only qualifier for that race.


Qualifying got underway Monday in the May 12 Georgia General Primary which will feature a ballot chock full of races both here and statewide and only one contested local race had materialized as of 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

The qualifying period ends at noon Friday, March. 8.

The lone contested race is that for the District 4 seat on the Lamar County commission. Republican incumbent Nancy Thrash has qualified. She will battle fellow Republican Truman Boyle.

Others who have qualified include: incumbents sheriff Brad White, clerk of court Caleb Tyson, probate judge Kathy Martin, chief magistrate Paul Kunst, Dist. 3 county commissioner Ashley Gilles, Dist. 1 school board member James Butler, coroner Clay Tillery and LCSWCD supervisor Russ Walters.

Also qualifying were Glen Allen who will seek the Dist. 3 school board seat and Amanda G. Gamez who is seeking the office of tax commissioner.
