Julie Middlebrooks Whitten is infuriated with city officials and animal control personnel after a dog she rescued was euthanized just hours after slipping her collar and leaving her Thomaston Street home.Honey, a yellow lab mix Whitten rescued from a Griffin intersection just five weeks ago, was apparently among some 10 dogs gassed to death at the local animal shelter after what authorities said was an outbreak of Parvovirus at the pound. She had only been gone from her home for about three hours when she was killed.”I don’t care whether the dog had a home or not. It never had a chance to be found. It certainly shouldn’t have been put down in less than three hours. It’s unconscionable and uncivilized. What does this say about us and what we have become,’ Whitten said.
