Quick police work solves pharmacy burglary; SUSPECT DIES IN JAIL

Quick work by Barnesville and Gordon College police officers and Lamar deputies led to the arrest of a suspect in an early morning burglary at Hines Prescription Shop Monday. UPDATE: THE SUSPECT, CASEY AMERINE, HAS DIED IN THE LAMAR JAIL. His body has been taken to the state crime lab for autopsy and the GBI is investigating. The alarm system at the store activated at 12:20 a.m. City police and deputies responded and found the front door shattered. Upon entering the store, they found prescription drugs had been stolen. They also found blood on the store counter. Officer Freddie Oates, who was on duty at Gordon but also works for BPD, encountered a suspicious person on Holmes Street identified as Casey Amerine, 24. Amerine’s arm was bleeding and the missing drugs – narcotic pain killers- were found on his person. After reviewing surveillance video, a positive ID of Amerine as the burglar was made.
