Rain or shine, ‘Sticks’ show goes on

The annual Summer in the Sticks country music blowout at Ritz Park goes on Saturday rain or shine. At noon Friday, forecasts called for a chance of rain. The gates open at 6 p.m. with music ‘“ and a cornhole tournament ‘“ starting at 6:30 p.m. Featured artists include headliners the Grayson Rogers Band of Cape Coral, Fla., visiting town as part of their Heat of the Summer Tour and playing original music as well as country hit covers. Also on the bill are Jordyn Stoddard, 16, of Jacksonville Beach, Fla. who plays country, pop and folk and has been writing her own music for years. She began releasing singles in 2013 after winning several talent shows and making TV appearances. Up and coming singer Autumn Clark of Zebulon, 15, is a sophomore at Pike County High School and has performed at Buggy Days and sung the National Anthem at Atlanta Motor Speedway, among other regional performances. She plays guitar and piano. ’It’s bound to be a fun night, so tell all of your friends and make sure you’re there,’ said Clark. Lamar County’s own Gary Ware also has performed at Buggy Days, Macon’s Cherry Blossom Festival, charities, churches and music barns all over the area. He was on The Nashville Network’s ‘Be A Star’ in the early 1990s and performed with the late Dewaine T. Bell in 4U2C. He sings country, Southern rock, rhythm and blues and gospel. Food will be provided by Shane’s Rib Shack and there will be arts and crafts vendors. There also will be a live auction of a guitar. The Johnson acoustic will be signed by all the night’s performers. Top prize for the cornhole championship is $200 in cash with a second place prize of $200 worth of Southern Life apparel. The cost to join is $25 per team, excluding the ticket into the concert, with a 10 team minimum.
