Lamar County held its public hearing on the 2010 census redistricting map but got input from only the board of education, which was to hold a separate vote Tuesdayto approve the state-generated districts since it uses the same lines as the county. The commission approved the map, including the oddly shaped, minority-majority District 1, at the Jan. 23 meeting. The deadline for sending it to the state legislature is Feb. 10, which means the board must hold a called meeting ahead of its regularly scheduled Feb. 14 meeting to get it there before the deadline. The state has to get it to the federal Department of Justice by May 1.
