Despite the tornado that ripped through Lamar County last Thursday morning, that afternoon local cancer survivors were out in force for the Relay for Life survivor’s reception at Slices Pizza.’It was really well attended. There was a great turnout considering what had just happened. That was amazing,’ said organizer Ruth Hice.Relay for Life, begins at 7 p.m tonight and runs through 7 a.m. Saturday at the Gordon Road recreation complex.This year’s theme is ‘Fishing for a Cure.’ The goal is $68,000 and 25 teams; 15 teams have signed up online and fund-raising has been going on for weeks.A Bank Night fund-raiser was held Monday, May 2, at United Bank from 5-7 p.m. as a lead-up to the big event. Cancer survivors will walk the first lap shortly after the May 6 opening ceremonies at 7 p.m.’We’ll have a lot of entertainment and food all night long,’ said Hice.
