Relief fund soars past $100,000

Donations to the Lamar County Tornado Relief Fund continue to pour in and soared the $100,000 mark Tuesday. The fund is being handled through the Barnesville-Lamar Community Foundation and are tax deductible. All of the monies will go directly to tornado victims in the community and screened by a local committee. About $400 has already been distributed for emergency needs. ’People can rest assured their money will be spent right here at home. We are going to be very careful in screening applications. This money will be used to help storm victims rebuild their homes and lives,’ said IDA executive director Missy Kendrick who has worked extensively with tornado relief. Donations to the fund can be made at any branch of United Bank or mailed to The Herald-Gazette, Box 220, Barnesville, Ga. 30204.
