Remnants of hurricane could drench Lamar

The remnants of Hurricane Ida, now downgraded to a tropical storm, are expected to continue depositing heavy rains to Lamar County through early Wednesday morning. Rain began just before 1 a.m. Tuesday in most parts of the county and became heavy by 3 a.m. causing power outages in the far regions of Lamar. Heavy rain is expected to continue through 8 p.m. Tuesday before turning to showers. The rain is expected to end at about 3 a.m. Wednesday, in time to allow for outdoor Veterans Day observances here. Winds up to 20 mph are anticipated in connection with the storm. A flood watch has been issued for the area in that rainfall amounts of up to four inches are expected with this system.
