Ride for Savannah set for June 6

By Rachel McDaniel The community continues to rally around the Talley family after the tragic loss of young Savannah Talley to an unknown illness. A special Ride for Savannah event will be held Saturday, June 6 starting with registration at 9 a.m. and kickstands up at 11 a.m. The event will be held at the Barnesville VFW Post 6542 at 361 Old 41 Highway, Barnesville, and will include games for the whole family, an auction, food and drinks and more. The cost for riders is $25 and $15 for passengers. All proceeds will go to help the Talley family who are facing massive medical bills after Savannah was hospitalized for nearly a month in critical care units. Also at the event, Felton Lewis will raffle off a 45-quart Yeti cooler and a Green Egg Grill with all proceeds going to the Talley family. Tickets are available at Pastime Grill and DB’s Pizzeria. ‘I’m just hoping to make enough money to help them with expenses such as the hospital bills and things they’ve had to pay for while Savannah was in the hospital,’ he said. ’I’m trying to do something to help them offset the costs from the whole ordeal. I’ve lost a child myself and I know a little about how it feels so I just wanted to help any way I can.’ The drawing will be held during the Saturday, June 6 motorcycle fundraiser if all tickets are sold. If not, the raffle will continue until all tickets are sold. The first winner will get to choose between the Yeti cooler and the Green Egg Grill and the second winner will receive the other item. Tickets cost $20 each and the value of the Green Egg Grill is more than $600 and the Yeti cooler is valued around $400. The Ride for Savannah Talley will include family fun for non-riders as well as an auction and food sales. Donations can be made at this time as well. Savannah Talley was removed from life support after a brain hemorrhage; she had been placed in a medically induced coma for several weeks after experiencing more than 1,200 seizures in a 34-hour period. She passed away Thursday, April 30.
